Jack & Jill Baby Showers: A How-To Guide

When we think of baby showers, many consider a ladies’ afternoon, showering the mommy-to-be with love and supplies for her bundle of joy’s arrival. But it’s 2020 and the fellas in our lives also want to celebrate baby too! Enter the Jack & Jill baby shower. But what exactly is a Jack and Jill shower and how can you host one for your pregnant bestie or plan your own? We’ve got the guide you need!

Jack & Jill

A Jack & Jill shower is more or less a co-ed baby shower where not only can the mother-to-be and her gal pals and family celebrate but the father-to-be and his male friends and family can also join in. Often, these Jack & Jill showers are a little less cutesy than a traditional baby shower and focus more on special elements and family fun before the baby’s arrival.

So how can you host or have the ultimate Jack and Jill shower? Read on!

Jack & Jill Baby Shower Tips

For many couples, the baby shower is when it really sets in that life as you know it will drastically change once the baby is born. A joint shower is a great way to spend time with family and friends who you may not see as often once the baby is born. So how can you have a great shower to celebrate baby while also giving your guests an awesome time? Check out our tips:

Theme. When selecting a baby shower theme, take a break from the traditional and spice it up! Some Pinterest worthy themes include sports, safari, and nautical. But for a really unique baby shower, we suggest taking it to the next level with these themes:

  • Baby-Q: Baby-Q, BBQ… get it? We love a good pun and this shower theme is no exception! To make your Baby-Q shower special, go the extra mile with small details like chalkboard food labels, red gingham tablecloths, and a spread of classic BBQ foods. As long as the momma-to-be’s cravings are down with that, of course.
  • Bun in the Oven: Another fun play on words. This Bun in the Oven theme is a great way to get people involved in the baby shower by asking guests to fill out recipe cards for the new parents on quick dinners. You can go all out with a retro kitchen theme and even make fun mini ovens with baby-themed cupcakes.
  • What Will It Bee?: If you and your partner are not finding out the baby’s gender, this What Will It Bee? shower is a fun spin on a shower theme. Decorate the venue with yellow flowers and bee themed decor and maybe include honey-infused foods. Speaking of food…

Food. We’ve all been to those baby showers where the only food is delicate little sandwiches and cakes. When you’ve got a Jack & Jill shower to cater to, you need to remember that some of your guests may leave a little hungry if you’re only serving cucumber sandwiches. Consider having a buffet dining option and a fun dessert table so your guest can dine and snack as the baby shower continues.

Games, Prizes & Favors. Baby shower games and favors are just one part of a shower that many guests expecting a traditional event will still hope to see. While the frozen plastic baby in an ice cube game is a fun co-ed game, consider other options like guessing the baby food where guests will assemble teams and guess the flavor of certain baby foods.

With these games, you’ll also need prizes. Hand soap and towels are fine, but you can also shake things up with lottery tickets, mini bottles of alcohol or even coffee gift cards.

Finally, as a thank you to your guests for showering your bundle of joy, you’ll want to give your friends and family a small favor. Since both men and women will be in attendance, consider some unique options like:

  • Customized drink koozies with a phrase like “Huggies and Chuggies
  • Specialty Popcorn
  • Fancy tea

Planning a baby shower is very exciting, especially when all of your family and friends get to shower you in love. By following some of our advice, your shower is sure to be poppin’.
