The Season of Savory

With August nearly two-thirds of the way over, the last official month of summer will soon come to an end. But we still have some time to grill up our favorite types and cuts of meat during a few end-of-season backyard barbecues. The Beaumont Inn is here to share some of the best bites for your day in the sun.

Classic Beef Burgers All Summer Long

You can’t have a proper summer BBQ without a juicy hamburger. One of the best ways to enjoy it is to pair it with a toasted bun and fresh vegetables, but if you’re feeling a bigger burger, there are plenty of additional toppings that we recommend. You can add a slice of your favorite cheese, some pickles, or a few slices of bacon. However, if you’re feeling adventurous, you could top the meat with some crunchy fried onions, avocado slices, or an over-easy egg.

Savory Steak

There’s something about grilling a steak that just screams summer. While there are plenty of different cuts of steak, there are a few that are the absolute best for grilling, such as:

  • Sirloin
  • Ribeye
  • Fillet

Ribeye comes from the rib section, fillet comes from the short loin section, and there are several types of sirloin, all from the sirloin section. These three sections are on the upper half of the cow and are not worked as hard as other areas, making their cuts quite tender. This allows them to grill quickly and efficiently, unlike more muscular cuts that are better for slow cooking.

There are plenty of ways to season your steak, some even as simple as sprinkling salt and pepper on it. But for a truly flavorful steak, there are a few different rubs and seasoning blends out there, such as garlic and onion mixtures, herbs de provence steak seasoning, or Montreal steak seasoning. For a steak that melts in your mouth, be sure to baste it as it cooks on the grill. To baste, coat the steak in a mixture of your choice — many people choose a butter and garlic concoction.

Juicy Chicken

Now, chicken may not be the king of the grill in the way that red meat is, but it’s pretty high up in the ranks. Not only do you have different options when it comes to seasoning such as a nice lemony garlic marinade, but a whole chicken gives you a variety of choices, such as breasts, thighs, wings, or drumsticks. They can be grilled and enjoyed on their own or sliced up and crafted into delicious sandwiches.
