Global BBQ Traditions

Brews, Blues and BBQ: A Global Celebration of Smoke, Spice, and Soul

Today we are going to take a look at some global BBQ traditions. There’s something universally comforting about barbecue. The scent of sizzling meat, the sound of it crackling over an open flame, and the way it brings people together—whether on a back porch in Texas or a backyard in Cape Town.

At our upcoming Brews, Blues and BBQ – the beer will be flowing and the blues will be playing, the real star is barbecue—in all its smoky, spicy, and slow-cooked glory.

American Barbecue: Regional Royalty

Barbecue in the U.S. is as diverse as the country itself.

  • In the Carolinas, it’s all about pulled pork with a tangy vinegar-based sauce.

  • Texas holds bragging rights for its beef brisket, rubbed with spices and smoked low and slow.

  • Memphis ribs come either dry-rubbed or drenched in sauce.

  • And Kansas City? They do it all—with sweet, molasses-rich sauces coating everything from ribs to burnt ends.

Argentina’s Asado: Fire and Friendship

In Argentina, asado is more than a meal—it’s a ritual. Meats are grilled over a wood-fired parrilla, seasoned simply, and served with chimichurri, a zesty herb sauce. It’s not rushed or  quiet. It’s a celebration of connection, fire, and fantastic beef.

Korean BBQ: A Sizzle at Every Table

Korean BBQ brings people together around the grill—literally. Diners cook marinated meats like galbi (short ribs) and bulgogi (sweet soy beef) right at the table. Pair it with a cold beer and an array of banchan (side dishes), and you’ve got a full flavor experience.

Jamaican Jerk: Heat with Heart

Jamaican jerk barbecue is bold and unforgettable. The marinade—featuring scotch bonnet peppers, allspice, and thyme—packs heat and complexity. It’s traditionally will be grilled over pimento wood, infusing each bite with deep, smoky flavor.

South Africa’s Braai: More Than a Meal

In South Africa, a braai is a gathering that transcends cultures. Meats like boerewors (spiced sausage), lamb chops, and chicken sizzle over open wood flames. It’s rustic, hearty, and best enjoyed with a cold beer and good company.

Japanese Yakitori: Small Sticks, Big Flavor

Over in Japan, yakitori transforms simple ingredients into grilled perfection. Skewered chicken parts—everything from thigh to heart—will be seasoned with salt or sweet soy glaze and cooked over binchotan charcoal. Think of it as Japanese soul food on a stick.

Middle Eastern Grill: Smoke and Spice

From Turkey to Lebanon, the Middle East offers its own take on barbecue with spiced kebabs. Meat is marinated in a fragrant blend of garlic, cumin, sumac, and citrus, then grilled and served with warm flatbreads, tahini, and herbs.

Come Hungry. Leave Inspired.

At Brews, Blues and BBQ, we will be serving up some classic American favorites. We don’t have our menu lined up at this time, however, maybe we will tip our hat to some of these global BBQ traditions!
